Mataukareao

Located one block from the new hospital precinct, Mataukareao is a six-storey, 24-metre high commercial A-grade office and car park development in central Ōtepoti Dunedin. It is a prime location for anchor tenants Pacific Radiology and IRD, and offers flexible fit-out options for other tenants in the professional and medical services.

The building is targeting a Green Star 5 rating (a very unique proposition in the Dunedin market), and features striking architectural design that reflects the site’s cultural history, alongside modern, efficient facilities including onsite parking managed by Dunedin City Council.

Te Rūnanga o Ōtākou played a dual role in this development - as an investor through Hāpai, and as the key mana whenua partner in this rohe. This exemplifies the Hāpai model, ensuring that mana whenua are deeply embedded within all of our projects. The name Mataukareao has been gifted for the building – acknowledging the site’s history as a landing place for waka and a rich source of mahinga kai.
