Wharerangi
Wharerangi is an exciting new and master planned community for Napier that will be transformative for Hawkes Bay. The development has been enabled by Mana Ahuriri and is being delivered by a joint venture established between Mana Ahuriri and Hāpai Housing. This partnership demonstrates the Hāpai approach to partnering with mana whenua.
Taipō Stream means 'evening tides', when the tide came in it was very audible, signalling the arrival of kai moana.
Likewise, Pūrimu Stream is named for the local cockles which were a uusual food source and easily gathered, with remnants of the cockles nestled in the banks of the stream still visible. The site has been extensively designed to support the replenishment and revitalisation of the estuary and an acknowledgement of the rich history and fauna and flora that occupied the area.
Over the next 5 years we will be developing a master planned community that will be a destination for Napier. This will include mixed tenure residential, aged care living, commercial amenity, and public spaces and recreation. Wharerangi is close to a range of amenities and key employment hubs such as Taradale, Onekawa’s industrial precinct, Napier CDB and provides easy connection to the wider Hawkes Bay metro area.
The joint venture is partnering with Ka Uruora Te Matau-a-Māui in the support of whānau into mixed tenure homes, including affordable rental, kaumatua housing, progressive home ownership and outright home ownership.
